This page has five sections of information and should provide you with everything you need to know, if you have any other questions please Contact Us or speak to the section leader or Group Scout Leader.

Information About Joining
We have a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack and Scout Troop, the three sections together make "1st Highfield Scout Group".  Scouting is an active and exciting hobby for all boys and girls from the age of 6 through to 14.  Please refer to the section pages for more details and meeting times.

At 1st Highfield we arrange a good balance of activities and adventure as your child grows up through each section.

You don't have to start at the beginning......you can join at any age.  Why not give it a try - you don't have to make any commitment, but if you do enjoy it you will then be "invested", which involves making the Scout Promise.

If you would like to check that there is a place available to come and have a look and possibly join Beavers, Cubs or Scouts please use the Contact Us page stating which Section you would like to try.

Subscriptions
The subs are incremental as the activites and resources increase through each section.  The payments are per month x 12 months and includes the annual membership subscription ('capitation') that all Scout Groups have to pay to the Scout Association for each of their members.

Beavers Subs - £10
Cubs Subs - £11.50
Scouts Subs - £12.50

The easiest way to pay is by standing order, this saves a leaders time at scout meetings collecting subs and having to look after a lot of cash, it also keeps your subs up to date without having to remember when to pay.  All you need to do is ask your scout leader for a form, this will have a unique reference number that you must use when you set up your standing order, so that when your payment shows on the scout group account our treasurer can cross reference your standing order to your child(ren).

We also operate the Gift Aid scheme, so if you pay UK tax we are able to claim tax relief on the subscriptions that you pay.  All you need to do is complete a simple form to enable  us to claim 25pence back for every pound you pay from HMRC (the tax office). This does not affect your personal circumstances in any way - see our Gift Aid FAQ.  You can print our Gift Aid Declaration Form here or ask for details and a form when you join.

Membership Records
When you join you will be asked to complete a membership record.  This form asks for contact and health information and disability details about the young person.  We request this information to ensure that we are prepared for emergencies and hold the correct and relevant information.  Details of any disability needs to be known to ensure a safe integration of your son's/daughter's participation in activites.

We will also keep details of your son's/daughter's progress through Scouting (badges gained etc).  Information held by us may be shared from time to time within Scouting (including the Headquarters of the Association).  Any information will not be passed to any third parties outside the Scout Movement without your concent.

Our Expectations
We would expect all Parents/Carers of all our Scouts to:-
  • support your young person throughout their time as a Scout
  • bring him/her to Church services to represent 1st Highfield Scout Group (we attend four services spread throughout the year at St Andrews, an organised Christmas service at another venue and St George's Day Parade in Chesterfield)
  • show an interest and support the Section's activities
  •  support us in fundraising and social activities outside the usual meeting time
  • offer your skills/help out from time to time where appropriate
  • inform your section leader if the young person is not able to attend the meeting
  • inform your section leader if the young person wishes to give up their place as a scout (should you wish to discuss the reason for this you can speak to the section leader(s) or the Group Scout Leader)

Adults in Scouting
All adults involved in Scouting have completed a criminal records check (CRB), provided references, completed an application form and attended an appointment meeting.  All these checks are designed to safeguard our young people.  Appointed Leaders then attend various training courses.  Also, there are special training and requirements before leaders can take young people on nights away.

All Leaders are unpaid; attend courses and anything to do with scouting they do in their own time.  They beacome Leaders for the reward of investing their time in our young people. To see these young people achieve and grow into responsible citizens and active members of our community.....no reward could be greater.

If there are any adults who would like to contribute by giving some of their time to Scouting, then Simon, Group Scout Leader would like to hear from you.  There is also a Young Leader Training programme available.

If you have a little adventure in you, then join 1st Highfield and make it a big adventure!  To find out more don't delay Contact Us TODAY!!
